3 weeks agoOur stay at the Gage was only supposed to last two nights, but we extended it to three because we were having such a wonderful experience! My husband and I came to Marathon for our honeymoon and checked in to the Gage after a long wedding week and a long drive from Austin. We were exhausted and needed rest… our stay at The Gage was just the thing. We stayed in the Owners Suite and everything was great, from the soft bed to the coffee that was set and ready to go. When we extended our stay, we had to move rooms because the Suite was already booked, but the wonderful staff made it so easy for us! They kept us on the second floor and moved our belongings for us while we were out and about. The hospitality is incredible. The team at the front desk had become our friends by the second day and really went above and beyond, talking to us about our wedding and exclaiming over our pictures, giving us recommendations for what to do in the area, bringing us a bag of ice for our cooler when none was available in town… the whole nine yards! They were so sweet and friendly, we were sad to say goodbye! We spent a lot of time by the saltwater pool, and the peace and quite is so refreshing. The town is walkable, and everything connected to the Gage is lovely to explore. Also, squeaks the cat is adorable and hangs out in the lobby most of the day in front of the fire, which instantly makes the place feel cozy and homey when you step in the door. This is a friendly, cozy, peaceful, beautiful, refreshing place to stay. Truly a ten star experience and worth your time.

a month agoI've traveled to Big Bend National Park about a dozen times over the last 35 years and for the first time decided to stay at the Gage Hotel in Marathon with my two teenage kids. It was a memorable experience. After 4 days of hiking, its nice to relax and take a day in comfort. The Gage owns not just the hotel but the garden two blocks away and the two restaurants next door. The steaks at the 12 Gage were excellent. Good food and good rooms. Staff at the hotel and restaurant were what you would expect at a more luxury hotel. Hospitality is part of the package. As we were exploring Marathon, member of the maintenance staff who was kind and allowed us to look around pointed us to Post Park and how he would take his kids there. We went and what a pleasant surprise

a week agoWe stayed here about week ago. It took me this long to write this as I wanted to make sure i thought it through. Most overpriced hotel in Texas. Rooms are so small 2 people can barely walk around the beds. No place ie: table to put your phones or pad. When we arrived A/C in room was not working we reported on our way to the gardens. When we got back our room was wide open. A/C was fixed and fortunately 15,000.00 in camera gear was still in room no workman in sight. Restaurant is even worse. We both ordered chicken fried steak it was so greasy we couldn't but a little bit and that made us sick. Mashed potatoes tasted the powdered ones in military. Greens beans were completely unseasoned. Drinks never got refilled. Do your self a favor save 150.00 stay some where else. Holiday Inn in alpine is 30 minutes away and way better at half the price

a month agoTucked away in the quiet town of Marathon, the Gage Hotel is a timeless gem that captures the rugged spirit and rustic charm of Texas. It’s the kind of place where you instinctively want to sip coffee on the porch at sunrise or stargaze by the firepit at night. Walking through the landscaped courtyards, past cactus gardens and old mesquite trees, it’s easy to forget the outside world. Even the air feels different—dry, crisp, and peaceful. There are no TVs in the rooms, and that’s intentional. This is a place to unplug, reconnect, and soak in the atmosphere. Whether you’re grabbing a drink at the White Buffalo Bar, dining on refined ranch-style fare at 12 Gage, or simply relaxing in a rocking chair under the big Texas sky, the Gage Hotel offers an experience that’s as authentic as it is unforgettable.

2 weeks agoA place with unique rooms and an old western setting. There are not tvs in the rooms, which is actually nice. My only issue was I requested a late checkout which was granted but the housekeeping staff saw me take 2 bags to the car, and in that 5 minute time stripped the entire room and left the door open with my other stuff inside not fully packed. I closed and locked the door and went back to the car and came back to an open room and the lady trying to tell me to leave it open. There needs to be better communication between management and housekeeping. I had to be sure I had everything packed while all the bedding, etc had been rolled up and taken out. And the housekeeper acted like she couldn't understand me when I said we have a late checkout and commenced to taking stuff out.
