The Gage Hotel

Five star place.

I have stayed at The Gage multiple times and have always loved it. We are considering another trip this fall, I called to ask if they were doing anything to speak out about what is happening in the national park right now. The woman who answered the phone forwarded me to the general manager's voicemail, and I never received a call back. I'll update this post with additional information if they respond.

I would love to give a five star review to this lovely hotel, it’s really beautiful and the vibe was great! However, the mosquito is crazy here but all they got was bug sprays. We couldn’t sleep well at all. If they have mosquito repellent equipped, it would be such a heaven!! I got 20 bites all over me after one stay🤪my daughter’s face got 3 giant bites on the forehead… I would come back, but please no more mosquitos

One of the coolest, and most unique places in all of Texas. We love staying here after a trip to Big Bend. The staff is incredibly accommodating, the pool is magnificent, and the restaurant is top notch.

Our family absolutely loved our stay at the Gage Hotel. It served as the perfect home base for two unforgettable days exploring Big Bend National Park and the surrounding region. After long days on the road and the trails, coming back to the hotel felt like coming home. We stayed in one of the private casitas, and it was exactly what we were looking for. It was quiet, comfortable, and spacious. Traveling with our dog made it even better because he absolutely loved having his own private fenced yard to relax in. It's clear the property was thoughtfully designed for guests looking to unwind. The hospitality was outstanding from start to finish. The grounds are beautifully maintained, the pool is a wonderful place to cool off after a day in the desert, and the entire property has a relaxed West Texas elegance that's hard to describe until you experience it. One unexpected highlight was the shower. It may sound funny to mention, but it was honestly one of the best hotel showers we've ever had. After hiking through Big Bend, it was exactly what we needed. We also enjoyed dinner at the hotel's restaurant, which was excellent, and found ourselves returning to Marathon's small-town charm, including a great little barbecue spot just down the street. A couple of suggestions would make an already great stay even better. At this level of accommodations, we'd love to see real wine glasses and a few pieces of basic dishware in the room instead of only plastic cups. It would make it much easier for guests to enjoy a nice bottle of wine or prepare a simple cocktail after a day of exploring. Access to ice was a little inconvenient from our casita, although we understand that's part of staying on a spread-out property. The only other minor issue was a faint, unusual odor in the room that lingered throughout our stay. It wasn't overwhelming and certainly didn't affect our overall experience, but it was noticeable enough to mention. Overall, we had a wonderful visit and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. If you're looking for a place that combines authentic West Texas charm, outstanding hospitality, and an ideal location for exploring Big Bend, the Gage Hotel is an easy recommendation. We're already looking forward to coming back and discovering even more of this incredible part of Texas. 🌵🍷🏜️
